On September 30, 1994 a class action lawsuit was filed against LA SAFE, CALTRANS, CHP, and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) by mobility and hearing impaired motorist. The lawsuit was settled on March 23, 1999, stating that all call boxes in Los Angeles County will be made accessible to hearing impaired motorist.  In the settlement agreement, it was also agreed that the vast majority of call boxes will be made accessible to mobility impaired motorist up to a $7,500,000 cost to make the Kenneth Hahn Call Box System accessible.  A CHP settlement agreement was entered into separately and it is provided here as a courtesy.
